2017 marks an important milestone for Hanoi Television, one that the station has prepared diligently for since 2015. The official television network of Vietnam’s capital, Hanoi TV will make its grand foray into the exciting world of High Definition.
Hanoi TV’s two TV channels Hanoi1 and Hanoi2 will broadcast a wide range of programmes in High Definition, reaching an audience of over 7 million viewers in the capital city and provinces within a 100km of the city.
Vietnam’s dramatic transformation from an agrarian society to a market-oriented economy is nothing short of spectacular.
Thanks to its young population, growing middle class and rapid urbanisation, Vietnam has seen a surge in TV stations switching from Analogue to High Definition.
Despite its limited budget and being a latecomer to HD, Hanoi TV has made some striking advances in a very short time. This is due largely to its HD upgrade exercise that it undertook in late 2015. To facilitate its move to HD, the station built a brand new building to house new studios capable of handling HD productions.
It also put its team of cameramen, engineers and technicians through an intensive training programme to get them up to speed on High Definition broadcast – in the studios as well as outdoors.
Working closely with Sony, the station which was established in 1954 invested in a wide range of Sony HD cameras as part of its upgrade. These include the PXW-X320 and PXW-X200 camcorders.
Impressed with their performance and versatility, Hanoi TV increased its Sony inventory by investing in the latest HD cameras like the HDC-2400 and PXW-X400 to join its existing fleet of HD equipment. It also acquired the MVS-3000A multi-format switcher.
The HDC-2400 3G multi-format HD system camera and the MVS-3000A were specially chosen for use in both its studios and Outside Broadcast vans.
Explains Ta Manh Quynh, Technical Manager at Hanoi Television on its selection of the HDC-2400: “We studied both domestic and international broadcast stations that used the HDC-2400, and were very impressed with the feedback and ratings it received. Besides its excellent image quality, the HDC-2400 was surprisingly easy to use despite its many features. It also integrated seamlessly with our XDCAM platform.”
Adds Ta: “Hanoi TV has a long history with Sony, and we have witnessed first hand the commitment and dedication of the Sony team. They not only provided after-sales service but also excellent technical support in helping us get our operations up in record time for our HD launch.”
